Mr. H. Sniaill, chief refrigerating engineer of the 6£. Northumberland now in port at New Plymouth, paid a visit to Waitara, which he left 12 months ago to go to sea for marine engineering experience. He w r as met by many friends at Belle Vue.hostel, where an enjoyable evening was spent in song and story. The delegates who have been attending the annual conference of the. New Zealand Cycling and Athletic Union at Stratford called at Waitara yesterday morning while, on their tour around the mountain. The party, numbering about 20, was met by the Mayor, Mr. E._ A. George, and the sports club officials and was taken to the sportsground. 'After an inspection of the new banked cycling track, of which high praise was expressed by the visitors, they were entertained at morning tea'in the pavilion. Mr. George, in his official capacity, welcomed them to the town. As president of the local sports club, he spoke on sports matters generally and concluded by wishing the visitors an enjoyable stay in the province. Mr. R. B. Meek (Otago), president of the New Zealand Union, replied thanking the Mayor for his welcome and the club for its hospitality. After a visit to the tennis courts and bowling green the party continued its journey.
