PHOSPHATE SHIP DISPUTE
SEAMEN’S CLAIM FOR WAGES. SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The dispute between the master and 13 men of the Norwegian steamer June was heard in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s ourt to-day. Trouble arose at Nauru Island, it is alleged as the result of the poor and scanty nature of the food supp Med, and on arrival at Lyttelton, their’ articles having expired, the men concerned left the ship, which proceeded to Port Chalmers undermanned and was there arrested to satisfy their claim for wages. Evidence having been partly heard, the magistrate suggested that if counsel would confer with him privately the matter might be settled. Th© men were anxious to get to Australia and • could be discharged from the ship there. After a conference lastng some hours an agreement was reached, and the men will rejoin the June at Port Chalmers, their fares being paid by the ship.
