NORTH ARGENTINA SHAKEN MANY REPORTED TO BE DEAD HILLSIDES BELCH FLAME GREAT CREVICES IN GROUND By Telegraph—-Press Assn.—Copyright. Buenos Aires, Jan. 14. Many were killed, extensive damage to property was caused and livestock suffered in the Andes region of northern Argentina owing to severe volcanic eruptions. Dispatches from San Antonio de Los Cobros, near the Chilean border, report that refugees fled leaving many buried under the torrents of stone, lava and ashes. Great crevices appeared in the ground, while the hillsides belched flame and lava. Much damage was also done before the eruptions by torrents of water bursting from the volcanic pits with deafening explosions. Relief expeditions have been organised. The area was recently wrecked by earthquakes. SEVERE QUAKE IN MEXICO. EVACUATION OF ALL BUILDINGS. Rec. 7 pan. Mexico City, Jan. 14. The strongest earthquake for many years was felt on Wednesday night, shaking buildings for more than twp minutes and darkening the lights, ah residents evacuated the buildings amidst great confusion. At hjast one was killed and four were injured.
