The Wellington Stakes.
Karapoti is undoubtedly brilliant, but he will be set a difficult task to give away considerable poundage to some of the two-year-blds engaged in the Wellington Stakes. Records favour the two-year-olds, who have won 25 of the 34 contests held so far. Cruciform, Achilles, Solution, Cunieform, Desert Gold, Gloaming, Thespian, Limited q.nd Paganelli are the only three-year-olds to succeed, and they were all champions in their day.

At a meeting of the Dargaville Racing Club’s committee last week, it was decided that if the totalisator contractors were agreeable two 5s totalisator windows should be installed on the outside for the club’s annual meeting next month, and also two. 10s windows on the inside. Will Bred. Distortion, who raced well for Mr. W. E. Bidwill at the Wairarapa Racing Club’s meeting, is a well-grown youngster of exceptional promise, and he may have to be reckoned with in important juvenile events letter in the season. He is by Chief Ruler from Termination, by Kilbroney from Culmination, by San Francisco from Stepfpldt, so that he represents a very successful faniily, with a great record for producing stayers. Stone At Trentham. ■ . Horses carrying the colours of Mr. T. B. Dwan will in future be trained at Trentham and it is probable that W. Stone will not return to Riccarton. blit will continue to train Mr. Dwan’s horses. Stone has a very useful in commission at present, comprising Mr. Dwan’s pair, Lord Thomond and Painkiller, and also Tray Bond and Si"ht' Draft. In addition he bas'd couple of two-year-olds of his own, Tea Kettle (Tpij, Tray—Unit) and Brown Paper (Paper Money—‘gaily Brown). Both remain in tha- Wellington Stakes.
Three dead-heats are recorded in connection with the 'Wellington .Cup, the judge having been unable to eep&rate Gladsome and Convoy in 1890, Red Ribbon and Rewi Poto in 1919 and Kilmoon and Oratress in, 1920. In 1890 Gladsome, who was ridden by F. D. Jones, was subsequently disqualified for being ridden by iff apprentice unlicensed to ride. Versatility! • •
