THURSDAY COMPETITION. In a Thursday competition cricket match played yesterday the Waitara team secured a 2-point win, on the first innings, over Eltham. INGLEWOOD CRICKET. “GENTLEMEN” BEAT “PLAYERS.” GOOD BOWLING AND LOW SCORING The annual cricket match, “Gentlemen” versus “Players,” was played at Inglewood yesterday in beautiful weather. Gentlemen defeated Players by 23 runs on the first innings in a.low scoring mate'll. Gentlemen batted first and could reach only 65, of which Hunt,, who w'ith Cbutts was the mainstay of the Gentlemen’s team, made 22. In bowling Humphries came out with the great average of four wickets for 11 runs. Players replied with the small total of 42. to which only F. Duncan (12) and G. Barry (13) contributed double figures. Coutts and Hunt were the only bowlers called upon in the Gentlemen s side, and both secured very good averages, Coutts five for 18 and Hunt five for 21.' In a second strike Gentlemen reached 74. Hunt played a very good innings for 32 not out. Thomason, seven wickets for 23, was the most successful bowler.
