Fears that were entertained for th safety of James Smith, a Waitara fist erman whose upturned boat was fourra. on Tuesday morning, ■were dismissed by the discovery of the man walking in a dazed condition on the Main North Road yesterday morning. He was conveyed to Waitara. After returning home he waa still in a dazed condition. Smith went to the river alone late on 'Monday night, when the tide was low, to set nets a few hundred yards from the river-mouth. He was setting his nets when the rough water capsized the boat and he struck his head on the gunwhale.- Although dazed he managed to scramble ashore and in a semi-con-scious condition wandered along the . ‘beach until he collapsed. Smith stated he. did not know then where he was, but on recovering he found himself near a stream. He later managed to continue walking until he finally reached the Main North Road where he was found.
