TWO MILLION TONS OF SHIPS

WORLD’S BUILDING LAST QUARTER. DECREASE IN BRITISH FIGURES. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, Jan. 13. Lloyds shipbuilding returns show that world construction during the quarter ending December 31, excluding Russia (of which no returns have been received), totalled 2,326,086 tons. Of this total 39.1 per cent, is being built in Britain, and 60.9 per cent, abroad. One hundred and eighty-one vessels, representing 908,802 tons, are being constructed in Britain, which is 207,844 and 651,352 tons less than for the quarters ending September 30, 1930, and December 31, 1929, respectively. Of the 1,417,184 tons being constructed abroad, 232,030 is in the United States, 218,215 in Germany, 179,677 in Italy, 174,215 in France, and 160,078 in Holland. The world tonnage of motor ships is 1,332,709. Seven vessels are •being built in Britain for the Dominions.
