£23,000,000 FOR RELIEF
“JUST DROP IN BUCKET’-’ AMERICAN UNEMPLOYMENT COMPLAINT AT SUM VOTED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 7.5 p.m. Washington, Dec. 20. Congress has passed and President Hoover signed measures appropriating £23,200,000 for immediate emergency construction work in aid of national unemployment relief and £9,000,000 for drought relief. Congress finally allowed the President to allocate the funds after amendments to leave control- in the hands of Congress were defeated. Senators Walsh (Massachusetts), and La Fellette assailed the measure as a drop in the bucket and demanded additional appropriations to be expended for direct ru lief rather than through public works.
