-SCHOOL CONCERT'S'UCCESSBS.
PRESENTATION TO TEACHER.
The Douglas school children presented their concert to a; large and appreciative audience bn Friday. Miss Frethey trained her pupils and the Crocking of them by the same pair of hands meant- no mean task. The children entered whole-heartedly into their parts and all seemed to enjoy their/.short stage career. .J’. The first half of the programme Was taken up by ‘‘The Princess and the Robbers,’’ the principals in which were;. The Princess, Margaret Walter; . TwoGirls, Olive Rumball and Eris Cruick--shank;- Robber Chief, Laurie Cruickshank; Fairy Qtffiefi, Hazel Wilms? hurst. Ift the secopd half Of the pro-; gramme the senior children presented “Robin, Hood,” by Alfred Noyes. This Was rather an ambitious.' undertaking with the limited stage room, but the., children showed up splendidly. The solos by Laurie Cruickghank and Bert Reader were much applauded as also were, all the choruses. The principals were: Robin Hood* Laurie Cruiekshank; The Knight, Willie Walter; King John,? Bert Reader; Lady Marian, Hazel Wilmshurei; Jenny, Amy Walter. At the conclusion of the concert Mr. Rumball expressed thanks to Miss Frethey for the great pains she had taken in preparing the children. As Miss Frethey has a year’s leave of absence to make an extended tour of England and Europe, Mr. Runuball called on her to accept a suitcase from the Douglas residents, a bridge outfit ftbni the school boys, and a diary from the school girls. Narifiy Walter then presented her with a beautiful bouquet of * roses. After musical honours had been accorded MisS Etbthey responded.
GENERAL AND PERSONAL.
The Whangamomona tennis team visited Douglas on’ December 7 and played a friendly game in ideal weather. Douglas ;von by 13 sets to 3, though the margin in games was only 17.
Considerable interest was taken in ah aeroplane that flew over Douglas early bn Thursday. The plane was flying rather low and in an easterly direction, and it afforded one woman with her first glimpse of an aeroplane.
Mrs. Jacobs had the misfortune to fall and break her leg. She is in the Stratford hospital. Albert Jacobs is also an inmate of the public hospital Mr. J. Emeny is convalescent.
