CIVIL SERVANT RETIRES
FORTY YEARS OF SERVICE; Having completed 40 years’ service, Mr. J. Curtayne, of Auckland, supervisor, Government National Provident Fund, will retire on superannuation at the end of the month. Mr. Curtayne joined the Civil Service jn 1890 as a junior in the Post and Telegraph Department at Westport. Five years later he was transferred to the telegraph office at Christchurch as a cadet and in 1900 was promoted to the position of postmaster at Martinborough, Wairarapa. Subsequently he occupied similar, posts at ■ Kimbolton and Ashhurst. He was transferred to an executive position at,Napier in 1917 and joined the . staff of the Government National Provident Fund two years later, proceeding first to Christchurch as district supervisor.’ In 1921 he was moved to Auckland where he has since remained. Mur Curtayne has enjoyed excellent health during his whole period of service and received only one day’s sick leave during that time. He intends to remain in Auckland*
