CLEVER BLIND PIANIST
HONOURS MEDAL RECEIVED.
MANY INSTRUMENTS MASTERED.
High honours were gained by Stuart Gordon, a young inmate of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, at the recent examination conducted in Auckland’by the Trinity College of Music. This boy, who possesses exceptional musical ability, gained 90 per cent, of the possible marks in the intermediate section for the piano, which was not only the highest marking for the December examinations, but higher than the best marks gained at the earlier examination held in June., At the June examination the pupil gaining the highest marks in the intermediate section was credited with 81. As the result of his outstanding achievement Stuart Gordon receives the silver honours medal for his grade. Stuart Gordon, who is 18 years of age, has been blind from birth, and has been at the institute since 1021. He received his primary education at the institute and gained his proficiency certificate two years ago. He not only plays the piano, but is proficient with the pipe organ, the saxophone, the clarionet and several other instruments and is a member of the institute’s full band as well as of the jazz dance band. He is a good swimmer and a good dancer.
