Professor, Werener Borchandt and an assistant, who were, carrying out climatic research work in Java, were being lowered into the cfater of the volcano Merapi, which was supposed to have ben extinct for 40 years, for the purpose of testing the temperature, when an outbreak occurred in the volcano’ and both were caught in the mass of molten lava. Friends from the bridge above saw them both, boil to death.
