THEFT AND BLACKMAIL
PUNISHMENT OF RINGLEADER.

Wellington, Dec. 19.
The story of a young man who was led into crime by an other and then blackmailed in order to make him part with his share of the proceeds was told in the Supreme Court when David Lawrence Atkinson and William George Pemberton appeared for-sentence for breaking, entering and theft Mr.. L. K. Wilson said it appeared that Atkinson was influenced into participating in the burglary. Pemberton, after receiving his share of the proceeds; blackmailed Atkinson, threatening to expose him. Atkinson confessed to the police. ' : .
Mr. Justice Ostler said Pemberton was undoubtedly the ringleader and he ordered him to be detained for two years and ordered to make restitution and pay the costs of the prosecution within six months.
