The Westward Ho Midget Golf Com* pany will open its new course at Eltham to-night, when an exhibition match wil be played by Mr. J. Quin, acknowledged New Zealand champion putter, and Mr. Clemow. 'This course, like the others laid down by the company, has been proclaimed by those who . have played on it to be the nearest approach known to the natural- turf. The felt has been specially imported, and players describe it as wonderful. / . . The Melbourne, Ltd’s Xmas Fair is the centre of great activity at present and the store is looking very'gay with festive decorations and comprehensive stocks of goods suitable for Christmas gifts. An incentive to shopping at this popular store this year is a general all round reduction to meet the decreased spending power of the farming community. The Railway Department advertise in this issue particulars of train arrangements and cheap excursion tickets in connection with the New Plymouth races on December 26 and 27. The first open-air miniature golf course to be opened in Taranaki is now ready for play, the Fitzroy Seaside Park Society having laid down an 18-holc course. The course is well, planned on natural turf, with numerous natural and artificial bunkers. Teams’ matches will shortly be arranged, and? it is the intention of the committee to provide a challenge cup and honours board. The course will be ofiicially opened at .2.30 this afternoon. As the profits from the course will be devoted to further improving the park, the committee should meet with success in its new venture. The tennis courts on the.beach are in excellent order this season and are proving very popular.
