OBITUARY.

The death of Air?. Susan Harding, wife of Dr. Harding,. Petone, occurred suddenly on Thursday rnoruing. Airs. Harding was . a Aliss McTaggart; and came out to New Plymouth with her brothers over thirty years ago to join an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Sadler, of “Scotlands,” New Plymouth, residing there till her marriage. She was a sis-ter-in-law of Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, late Director-General of Health. She was a woman of great charm and fine personality, one of the kindest of • people, who went through life doing quiet and continuous kindnesses privately. Her public work was . largely for the Navy League, and one of the high officials, says the Dominion, speak? of her death as an irreparable loss.” She has been one of the Ladies’ Auxiliary for many years, and was the leader in the work circle, which has provided many cases of clothing year by year for the dependents o sailors who lost their lives in the Great War. Airs. Harding took a vivid interest in this branch of the work, keeping jn touch with the authorities at headquarters in England, and working up interest continually in the Wellington district, with the result that the contributions numbered many hundreds of garments each year, and schools apd adults were kept interested and worked steadily. Her organisation splendid, and her enthusiasm unbounded, In recognition of her splendid work in this direction Mrs. Harding was awarded, bv the Home Office the Navy Leagues special serviee decoration. Airs, Harding w; s a steady worker at the Town Ila during the whole of the war period and had many friends outside her spheres of work. Much sympathy will be felt with her husband end two sons m their sad and sudden bereavement.
