RECOVERY OF THE ROOKERIES.

Rec. 9.40 p.m. . , Sydney, Dec. 18. Sir Douglas Mawson reports that--the weather was stormy during the expedition’s two-day s’ stay <vt Macquarie Island. The wireless, station .hutfl abandoned in 1916 were so weatherworn that they were now useless. The penguin rookeries, which were greatly depleted some years ago, when the seals were also decimated, were beginning to recover' since the island had been declared; asanctuary. // ‘ After two days’ study of the conditions ashore the scientists re-embarked and the Discovery headed southward through the mists. A'number of icebergs. were stranded on the shallow bank of the south end of tlje island.
