BURNSIDE DOUBLE SALE. FAT LAMBS FIRMER. Dunedin, December 17. Large yardings of fat stock were offered at Burnside sale to-day. It was a double sale to enable butchers to procure supplies for the Christmas trade. The lamb entry was much larger than usual, and considerable attention concentrated on this class. In the opening sales prices were higher than those realised at the previous sale. Butchers were keen to secure supplies, and the market in consequence was firm to the closing sales. There- was a good demand for wethers at last week’s rates, but as the freezing buyers did not operate, ewes were sold at reduced prices. Fat cattle met with a dragging sale, and prices were easier.

The sheep entry comprised 1700 head. . It was a poor yarding as far as quality was concerned, only a few pens of prime wethers being offered. These sold at 31s a head. The balance of the-wethers were light and unfinished, and sold*from 20s to 245; these rates being equivalent to a lb. A number of pens of extra heavy quality, the balance being inferior, comprised the ewe entry, and there was reduction of . about 2s a head for this class.
