CONCERT GIVEN BY PUPILS

Last’night brought the school year at Lower Mangorei to a close. The room was filled 'with parents, friends and children.’ Mr. Robinson was master of ceremonies. ’/ v ' /..-, George Smith opened the childrens programme with a well rendered pianoforte solo. There followed . a chorus, juniors; folk dance, a dozen primers; son< r , juniors; shoemakers’, dance, junior.'boys; recitations, Colin Weir, Joyce Bransgrove,; dance, eight girls; chorus, junior girls and boys; pianoforte solo, Fred.-Robinson; Maori canoe, 12 boys; canoe song, senior pupils; folk dance, senior' girls; solo, Allan Weir; io Ik dance, senior pupils; duet, Doris and Selwyn Goldsbury; song, senior pupils; song, Doris Goldsbury (guitar-and piqno accompaniment); dance, senior pupils; recitation, Allan Weir; . song,. Irene Me-, Asey; dance, senior pupils. -. All the item's, were .pleasingly rendered and' reflected credit on the teachers, Mr. Goldsbury '.(headmaster), Miss Baxter and Miss Balharry. Miss Henderson played all.the accompaniments, and was accorded a vote of thanks by the scholars .for her. help. . After supper dancing was enjoyed. ' , , SProfieiency certificates were presented to,Catherine Morris, May Weir,’.Doris Golds bury,.-, Fred Robinson, Leslie Mace, Brian Neilson, Mervyn Lucas, Cohn Davis, Bowen. A certificate of competency was given lan loms. The Rirth shield, presented by Mr. J. Firth, late of Mangorei, was won by Thomas Dames, the runner-up being Fred Robinson. ■

Good attendance certificates were won by Joyce Bransgrove, Lesley.
