In the .House of Representatives Mr. Crouch gave notice of hjs intention - to move, at the first suitable opportunity: “That it is the. opinion of this House that Canberra has failed aS tile Federalcapital on the grounds of expense, geographical position and general; inconvenience and that a referendum,with preferential voting, be taken of the electors of the Commonwealth to decide whether the capital should' be at Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Mel-bourne,-Perth, or Sydney, and that the consequential constitutional amendment be submitted later.to the.people,” Mr. Crouch’s motion agreed to with “Hear, hears” bn both sides of the Chamber.
