REGATTA CLUB ANNUAL MEETING.
The attendance was small at the annual meeting of the Waitara Regatta Club last night, and the suggestion was made that the annual meetings should be held in November/when the bush ness people were not so busy. Mr. k W. R. Johns presided. ' ,V The report (previously published) and the balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, the Hon. S. G. Smith; president, Mn W. R. Johns; vice-presidents, 10 were elected; judge, Mr. J. Vickery; deputy judge, Mr.-H. George; umpires and timekeepers, left to committee; starter, Mr. P. Jones; committee, Messrs. J. Vickery, 0. Keith, W. Spurdie, J. Kibby, F. Richards, T. Richards, F Locke, S. George, V. Tate, J. Priar, C. Sampson, E. Pennington, R. Bpteher, R. St. George, T/Laurent, J. Johnston, W. Morey . and E. Brown, with power to.add; secretary, Mr. G. Bird; auditor, Mp L,. Sampson. ;/> February-21 was selected as the date for the regatta., ■ ■ , s ..I . ■' -■ I ■ ■ ■ \ .-/ ' ■ GENERAL ITEMS. ’ The Christmas tree arranged by the Druids’ Lodge was held in the Clifton Hall on Monday, there being 300 children present. Rain fell at an inopportune time and must have been the means of preventing’ a larger attendance.' Mr. H. Ewens acted for Santa Claus; entered the hall, with his attendants at 8 p.m. and distributed the toys and gifts to a happy band of children. Dancing and games were enjoyed afterwards, together with a supper.- The children each received a bag of lollies and a balloon on leavings n - ' * Further arrangements were made on Monday night for the forthcoming gala day of the Seaside Society. Prizes were decided upon for decorated prams, bicycles, wheelbarrows,- carts, etc. Arrangements were also, made for the Highland dancing, treasure hunt and side-shows.
