UNLICENSED CAR FOR HIRE
MAN FINED £5 AT NEW PLYMOUTH
A fine of £5 was inflicted upon Robert William Ball at New Plymouth yesterday for driving a motor vehicle for hire without the vehicle\being licensed. He was also ordered to pay 10s, court costs and to repay £1 10s., the cost of a ticket purchased by a borough inspector in order to obtain evidence for a , conviction. , '. Defendant had inserted an advertisement in a New Plymouth paper that a car was leaving for Auckland, said Mr. R. Day, and that there was room for three passengers if expenses were, shared. Defendant had refused to sell a ticket to Inspector' Area, but had sold one for £1 10s. to a lady sent by the inspector. The . car had left with four passengers. Ball had no driving license, the car was not licensed for carrying passengers, and was in such condition that a license would not have been issued. Ball had been running regularly between New. Plymouth and Auckland, where the same steps had been taken and a conviction made.
