•INAUGURAL MEETING HELD. WEATHER MARS.THE SPORT.

Bitterly, cold weather, with heavy rain falling-, at. intervals ..marred : the inau-\ gural meeting of the HaweraLadies’ Amateur Athletic Club at the show- 1 grounds’.la&t night. As this Wh-s one of th®/first meetings conducted . by. a women’s athletic - club in New -Zealand such a state-of affairs was .disappointing, hut nevertheless entries were large, New'Plymouth I and Eltham as well as Hawera* being: well represented. Several exceptionally close finishes .were a feature of- the . meeting and the times were generally.-good. Visiting runners were later entertained at a .dance at-the .'Savoy,, when the pri'zezs; were presented by Mrs. T. J. Allan. On behalf of the club. Mr. S. Lay thanked the visitors for. donors of trophies, the officials, many o.f' whom: were • women, and .the orches-. tra -which: gave its services at the dance.
