CALEDONIAN SPORTS AT HAWERA.
MEETING ON NEW YEAR’S.DAY
Matters in connection with - the New Year’s Day Caledonian sports- at Hawera were advanced a further step at. a meeting of the committee held at Hawera on Monday evening. Encouraging reports from the amateur athletic side of the sports indicated widespread interest and the likelihood .of large fields of entrants.
It was reported that the ladies of the Scottish Society had offered to take charge of the, catering arrangements and to have ice-cream, fruit and soft drinks available. It was decided also to provide amusenierit for the children in races and other contests and to provide a, few side games. A friendly, tug-of-war — Kilties against the World—is .to be staged. An official photographer was.appointed. With the appointment of stewards and a general information officer the committee asserts that given fine weather and a sufficiency of entries, nothing will be wanting for a full day.
