A Suva cable reports that Mr. Alport Barker has been elected Mayor of Suva. Captain Hugh Hollas (Wellington), Mr. E. Moore (Milton), Mr. W. B. McKenzie (Wellington) and Mr. and Mrs. Tomkies (Wellington) are staying at the Criterion, New Plymouth.
Mr. John Arthur Rushton, a wellknown resident of the West Coast, died at Greymouth last week at the age of 78. He was the father of Constable Rushton, Stratford. z Two boarding, scholarships to an annual value of £BO each, and tenable for three years at Sacred Heart College have been awarded, after a competitive examination, to Matthew Cooney, of St. Thomas’ Academy, Timaru, and lan Dick, Marist Bros.’ school, Napier, states an Auckland Press .
