PEOPLE I DISTRUST, AND WHY.

(By

A.G.)

1 distrust the chatterer, because she is always talking abikit other people’s business. I distrust the person who will not meet my gaze, because I argue tliat she has a secret which she fears I might read in her eyes. I distrust' the girl who never pays hisr share, because she lias a mean streak iji her nature that cannot possibly go well with honest dealing. I distrust the self-satisfied woman, because she is so pleased with herself that she forgets her obligations to other people. I distrust the woman who can be cruel to animals, because 1 am sure she can have no pity for anyone who gets between her and her ambitions. I distrust the loud-voiced person, because of the bombastic natuie that accompanies a loud voice. I distrust the borrower, because of her unreliability. I distrust the woman who is too well dressed. I cannot give my reasons for this, for I don’t know what they are. Perhaps it is because she makes me feel that the world is like a scene from a musical comedy, unreal and therefore unreliable. Finally, I distrust all those who gush, because of their obvious falseness.
