CHRISTMAS CHEER EFFORT
COMMERCIAL. TRAVELLERS’ WORK. Tho commercial travellers of New Plymouth were-about tho streets yesterday , in connection with tfheir Christmas cheer , effort and next Wednesday’s concert in aid of the same cause. Without canvassing very strongly , they yet achieved • a fair measure of. success. ...They were particularly, hoping to attract a large audience’ to their concert, a feature of ( which is to be Mr. W.,Graeme Holders revue “The Beachcomber.” The ticket sellers and collectors were dressed in , carnival costume and they were assisted by Boulton’s orchestra, which played in Devon Street during the day. ' ' The children at the New Plymouth public hospital gave _ the _ travellers Father Christmas and his assistant (Mr. C. James and Mr. Roy Eaton) a v ery warm welcome when they arrived with a car load of good things yesterday morning. Each child received a toy and a bundle of sweets to keep young hearts happy until other organisations begin to pay their Christmas visits and promote the festive spirit. _ With the fruits of their special efforts the travellers' will entertain the poor children of the town at a P art Y 111 Pukekura Park on the Saturday afternoon before Christmas, and poor families will be helped on Christmas Eve with the distribution of Christmas hampers to those who are on the Relief Association s list of deserving cases. ,U J im T_ j lp— pr , mfWryr w'iiir^vrvo*naggn!gttMlc.JJiAua |
