TWO ARRESTS AT AUCKLAND
STATE ADVANCES LOAN CASES. ' DECLARATION. IN QUESTION.’ \ «** • > '. V By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Arrested this afternoon a iaxi-driver. William Cornelius Torchler, aged 33, was brought ‘ later before the Police Court on. a charge of counselling another man on November 26, 1929, to make a declaration which would amount to perjury if it were made on oath ■or affirmation in judicial proceedings. The declaration was stated ■ in the charge to have been made in 1 support of an application by another man for a State Advances loan. When the accused was brought, before Mr. Woodward, S.M., a remand was applied for' and wa<i granted, accused beincr ordered to appear next Thursday. 0 Bail was allowed in £lOO with two sureties of £5O each. Accused was ordered to report daily to the police. . Another arrest .made later was that of a man charged with making a false declaration in order to obtain a loan from the State Advances Office.
