SCOUTS COMMITTEE MEETS. NUMBER OF CUBS INCREASING. The monthly meeting of the Kaponga Group Boy Scouts Committee was held on Friday evening when the Rev. P. J. Cossum presided over the following members: Messrs. A. E. Anderson, F. Albon, C. H. Brewer, C. N. Gordge, C. A. Corder (secretary), R. Gwyn (scoutmaster) and. D. Brewer (assistant scoutmaster).

Arrangements for representation at the west coast jamboree of scouts at Wanganui from December 27 to January 3 were left in the hands of the scoutmaster".

A letter , was received from the secretary of the guiders’ rally- at Hawera extending an invitation to the. committee, the troop and parents to be present at the first South Taranaki divisional Girl Guide rally at Hawera on December 13. It was decided that the committee and troop would be represented as fully as possible.

It was stated the number of cubs was still increasing, three more boys having joined last week. It would be necessary to. appoint an assistant-cubmaster early in the new year. The recent scout competitions at Hawera were the subject of brief comment; the chairman expressed the pleasure of the committee at the success the patrol had had. The local troop was perhaps the youngest competing at the competitions and the performance was very creditable indeed.

CROQUET COMPETITIONS. ■Saturday afternoon on the Kaponga eroquet green was “open competition day” and. numbers of competitions were played. Once each month the Kaponga club has an open competition day when non-mdmbers are admitted upon payment of one shilling which entitles them to take part in any competition on that day and to have afternoon tea. The tournament on Saturday was most successful. The weather was good the attendance was large and altogether a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. Saturday’s competitions resulted: Golf croquet, (two trophies), A, Mrs. R. E. Williams; B, Mrs. Bentley. Hurry scurry (in pairs), Mrs. Rothe and Mrs. H. Syme. ■Ladder competition, Mrs. Noel Gardner. . SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Kaponga school committee was held on Monday, Messrs. F; W. Fallows (chairman), C. N. Gordge and J. Tattersail, Mrs. I. Evans and- the Rev. P. J. Cossum (secretary) attending. The Education Board notified that the department could not increase the capitation. The Eltham dental clinic notified the rate of contribution for services rendered Kaponga pupils. During the' season 37 pupils from Kaponga were taken to the clinic in Eltham. „ The chairman, secretary and Mrs. Evans were appointed to arrange the end-of-term concert. Reference was made to the serious illnebs of the headmaster’s son, the committee expressing sympathy with the headmaster (Mr. W. J. A. Farnell) in this connection and in his own indisposition. by the combined committees of the band and the fire brigade showed a clear profit of over £l2. The brigade considers the result most satisfactory and has thanked the organisers.
