L/4 (By “Acron.”) I - The New Plymouth Amateur Athletic r/dub began its second series on luesl/day at Pukekura Park and increased fe were a feature of all events.. The handicapper, Mr. G. H. Weir, I was in form 1 and most events found I three and four competitors crossing the .line practically' on terms. It was certainly the .best meeting held this sea- -• son. •’ T. K. Cambie, the fine Hawera sprint- // 'er, will be unable to compete in the .•»; invitation 220 yards race at the carx- nival on Boxing Day night. In adti z .''vising the promoters of the race Cambio greatly regretted he would be outi aide the province'during the holidays. Williamson, a promising half-iniler, running off the 15 yards mark in Wellington, has signified his intention of competing at the electric light meet-

ing. /■' The. Eltham Amateur Athletic Club has noininated M. Prince to represent it ' ••..■in 1 the invitation 220 yards (short limit) handicap at the December 26 carnival. S. A. Black continues to run in great ' form. On Tuesday night he won his heat and the final of the 100 yarils off £•'< two yards in 10. l-ssec. Extended, he /•. could probably have run even tifne. • / : The B relay team has held the buttons since they were first competed for V this season. On Tuesday the B team was back on the scratch mark, but good exchanges throughout the contest were mainly for the team’s success. // With eight and nine riders in each, of the cycle races on Tuesday two good contests were witnessed. Experience /.. mainly gave the half-mile to Gillies, / > the back-marker /' saving considerable ground at the bends and stealing up on the inner coming into the straight the < last time. There was rather a surprise in the two-mile cycle race which seemed a certainty for Gillies, who hit the front at the beginning of the last lap. Gillies, however, appeared to be caught napping, aud a new rider, Burr, beat him by half a length. Burr rode a well-judged race and should be improved with the exX perience. . R. J. Stewart has been doing best among the runners over distances this ‘ season and t he won the two-mile handicap well on Tuesday night. Fox and Smith both challenged .hotly over the last 50 yards, but Stewart sprinted even better than they. Both Fox and fimith are improving. ’ . . , R. B. Walsham had his first track race .of the season in that event, but ran a long way below form and did not complete- the course. Hodgson had the benefit of Kingston as a paee- ■. ;< maker and rau a much better race than he didi. the previous week. He outsprinted Kingston at the finish and beat his co-marker by a •Couple of yards. X This was Hingston’s first serious run this season, however, and his effort was •’-<‘pleasing one. _ I George Sullivan was in fine form ; and this all-rounder ran third in the 100 yards handicap, won the javelin throw and equalled Sid Fookes in the long . -jump. Sullivan threw the javelin 133 ' ft. 7in. and jumped 21ft. lin. in the long jump.* Jack Fleming, the star attraction in the invitation 220 yards handicap, has • fine record over sprint distances. His ■//'• best performances are second "to J. V. gcholta (at Wellington), 1026, in the 100 yards; first, beat Lloyd Hahn and 'W. Kyle, 1926,-in the 440 yards handi- '• ; i cap; first Wellington provincial championship 100 yards and 440 yards, 1927; first New Zealand championship 100 yards and 440 yards (record time), ■1928; first invitation 440 yards v. G. A. Goldinw (New South 'Wales), at Wel1930; first New Zealand championship 440 yards (50sec.), 1930.
