INDUSTRIES WEEK RESULTS. CONCLUDING CONCERT HELD. Mr. R. H. Hassell, Wanganui, who judged the window displays especially arranged for the Empire and New Zealand Industries Week in Stratford, placed the best inthd following- order:— Window No. 24, R. Hannah and Co. (C. W. Higgs, manager) 1 Window No. 72, A. H. Hillock 2 Window No. 85, Bellringer Bros. .... 3 Window No. 26, H.B. (F. J. Kendrick, manager) ..... 4 Window No. 80, R. H. White and Co. 4 The public was asked to compete in a window selecting competition, those taking part being asked to chose in order of merit, the four windows they considered the best, the persons whose selection coincided nearest to that of —e judge to receive prizes of £5, £3, £2 and £l. ■ , Last night the Mayor- (Mr. P. Concurrent with the window selecting competition, a “spotting” competition was held. The public was asked to locate in each-window an article not expected to be Stocked by the business. A great deal of- interest was taken in this competition and “spotting” became a vogue in Stratford all the week. Collingwood (79) .... 1 Master Fred Bamford (78) ...... 2 As a finale to the industries week and to afford an opportunity for the presentation of prizes won in the competitions, a concert was held in the town hall last night. The entertainment was arranged by the sub-eommittee appointed from the business men’s committee which organised the week; There was a largo attendance and the proceeds will be devoted to the purchase of Christmas cheer for inmates of the Stratford hospital. In announcing the results of the competitions Mr. Thomson said this was the first time that an Empire and Dominion week had been held at Stratford, and the week had been a tremendous success from the viewpoints of the shopkeepers, Stratford as a shopping centre and of trade within New Zealand and the Empire. The public, he said, must ha -r e been impressed- with the fine array cf Empire goods displayed by the shops, and. it was obvious that it was not necessary to go outside the Empire for one’s requirements. Similarly, the people of Stratford could purchase what they needed at Stratford. If any particular goods were not. in stock he was sure the business men would procure them for their customers. Mr. Thomson hoped that, the traders would see fit to hold an industries week in future years also. He. congratulated the committee which had organised the week and carried it to a successful conclusion. The fine programme consisted of: Orchestral selections directed by Mr. J. Aitken; song, “Old Folks at Home,” Mr. R. Hook; “Razors in the Air,” Mr. R. Marsh; “Old Black Joe,”. Mr. S. Robinson; “My Old Kentucky Home;” Mr. J. Weston; “Good Old Jeff,” Mr. W. N. Lonsdale; “There’s a Council in the Town,” Mr. C. Till; “When Uncle Joe,” Mr. P. Healy; “Camptown Races,” Mr.' A. J. Harper; “Carry Me Back' to Old Virginny,” Mr. B. Bellringer; “Ise Gwine Back*to Dixie,” Mr. C. Femmell; “Oh Dem - Golden Slippers,” Mr. A. J. Harper; “Good Times Will Soon Come Along,”. Mr. P. Skoglund; “Good Night,” Mr. E.-Pickles. .. CENTRAL TARANAKI TENNIS. : . MANGATOKI CLUB. The Mangatoki Tennis Club had a very successful club day on Saturday. The two courts were fully occupied from 10.30 till 7. pan. In order to try out the players and ascertain the ladder positions of the new members, teams were selected by the president and vicepresident. At the end of. the day the former’s team led by 11 games to 9. Several games were not played. In the Egmont tennis competition Otakeho will play Manmrtoki on Hie latter’s courts to-day. It is possible a 1* team will' travel to Otakeho to meet a second team there.

The Mangatoki club has been strengthened by the enrolment of a number of new members, and it is anticipated a much better showing will be made in the competition and outside matches. There will be keen struggles for some of the ladder positions. Full advantage has been, taken of the few fine days to obtain as much practice as possible.
