DYESTUFFS ACT TO LAPSE
ENGLISH PAPER’S PROTEST. COMPETITION FOR BRITAIN. By Telegraph-r-Press Assn.—Copyright. London, November 20. Commenting on the Government’s decision to allow the Dyestuffs Act to lapse in January next the Daily Telegraph asks: “Is the magnificent achievement of British colour-makers a reason for denying a further measure of protection ? “The German dye industry is now combined in a single huge corporation with a capital of £40,000,000, while America with 22i per cent, of the world’s dyestuffs trade, or'twice Great Britain’s, is a second formidable competitor. If cither or both dump coal tar products here we shall soon be back in the deplorable .position of 1914. Lord Melchett recently, pleaded for further support, and the scientists of the British Association in Septemher were unanimous concerning the eflect of the lapse the Act upon research.”
