LESS TOP-DRESSING LIKELY
EFFECT OF LOWER DAIRY PRICES (By Wire —Special to News.) ' >Auckland, Last Night, ’v The lower prices ruling for primary pro* ducts are considered to be du .rtly responsible for a more than usual slackening ia the demand for fertilisers during the past few weeks. Following thq winter top* dressings buying is alwayp a little easier before Christmas but this year farmer's who usually order supplies early for tjie commg autumn are withholding. Discussing the position one merchant stated-it appeared that farmers would not have t.he money to do much ton-dressing in the coming year. Their first consideration was to live and although they had not been top-dressing any more than was really necessar*- in the past, many considered they could afford to miss a season. Up to the present the position had not been so : - bad, but latterly a decline in the demand indicated that prospects were far from bright unless a f'-y of ' ope appeared in the market for at least one staple pro* duct. ■ It was early yet to predict to what extent business would be affected, but curtailment in importations and iu l uca * manufacture was not unlikely.
