Sir Charles Fergusson’s Mazer, consisting of a maplewood bowl with a silver rim believed to have been made in Edinburgh in 1576 apd tp be the four tn eldest example of Scottish silver healing a hallmark, realised £6OOO at Sotheby s. According to legend it was a gift from Hu, Scottish King James to a Fergusson who was his tutor-chaplain.
