WALTZING CHAMPIONSHIP(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Monday night the Warea Hall was the scene of a very enjoyable and successful dance. The lighting effects, which created quite a carnival atmosphere, were in the hands of Messrs. M. and S. Payne. Rows of coloured lights were, threaded among the streamers overhead with flood-lights radiating from the corners, while coloured spotlights were directed from the stage. The duties of masters of ceremonies were carried opt bv Messrs. F. G. Sole iunr., and E. E. Chapman and to the excellent music supplied by Henderson’s Star Orchestra everything went with a good swing. 'Extras were played by Misses A. Duggan and M. Sole. The coastal waltzing championship competition was won by Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, Mr. McCandish and Miss M. Pennington being second. Mrs. C. D. Evans (Auroa), who judged the competition, had no easy task’ in placing the competitors. Mrs. Evans arid Mr. Thompson then gave an exhibition oi waltzing. Barrett (black taffetas), F. .Chapman (blue lace), K. and F. Julian (deep cream georgette and tulle), I. Corbett (green satin), Davis (areen taffetas and lace), E. Meier (mauve crepe de chine), L. Sole (pink satin), I. Pycroft (pink satin), E. Pycroft (red crepe de chine), E. Putt (wine mousseline silk), N. Putt (tangerine mousseline silk), R. Wilson (pink georgette), M. Tyrrell (pink satin), M. Pennington (pink georgette), McCandish (mauve satin), A. Neilson (blue lace), Me Candish (black georgette) and M. Neilson (green and black satin). At a meeting of the Warea Girls’ Blasketball Club, held on Tuesday afternoon, the club decided to give a donation of £2 10s to the Warea school for improvements to the basketball field and the library.
