THE NEWEST CURTAIN CONCEITS.
1 the single drapery. (By F.F.) New styles in furnishing demand new ■styles in window treatment, anti designers havp ipet the demanfl in a variety M Perhaps the most table qf these is the noyel method of hapgimr tjie wßMpw with one very full curtain 3 ' of artificial silk, and drawing this in p bold pwpep towards the left side, where it is caught into a broad band. The well-arranged curve in the drapery proves a distinct asset to tl;e room a§ a whole, and there is no doubt that it comes into line with modern furnishing notions better than the pLouple curtains of yester-year, ' The band mgy be of china flowers and glass leaves in realistic, colour, wrppght into a garlanpl. It may be of rajlia w’oyen .into a broad, plait of many tints, or of narrow ribbons, similarly treated. Quite aipusing are the new ipaferials which are woven with, strips of open- ■ work or reveal glimpses of thin inner curtains in pppie effective colouring. I have seen one in soft pewter grey, with yows qf vertical twists set far enough apart to give a charming view of corajpink Japanese silk hangings on the other side*. It is possible to ring mpny changes on this idea; a magpie scheme, fay instance, would show white silk curtails behind black outer ones, the nption could be exploited in different shdtjcs of the same colour. A siinilar effect is to be evolved with outer curtails worked in “broderic aiiglaise” the cpqtrasting inner curtains showing I through the pattern.
