SINGLE MEN DISMISSED
REPLACEMENT BY MARRIED MEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Nov. 20. All the single men employed on the Hawca road construction works have been dismissed by the Public Works Department with the intimation that they would be replaced by married men. Mr. James Leckie, organiser for the Workers’ Union, states that the best shot firers and rock drillers had been dismissed and efficiency would be impaired. It is also claimed that the work at this isolated camp is not a married man’s job. JL’srs. Munro and Bodkin, M.P.’s, are making representations to the Minister that the conditions are fit only for single men without hope of town. work.
