“RESTRICTED INFLATION”

DIFFICULTY IN AUSTRALIA

ADVOCACY BY STATISTICIAN “REGULATION IS REQUIRED” PRICES AND CONDITIONS By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Can'berra, Nov, 20. Asserting that the present cataclysmal fall of prices in Australia is reacting disastrously on business, the Commonwealth Statistician, Mr. Wiokcjis, spoke in favour of restricted inflation. Any proposition to cut down interest rates would most likely be called repudiation, he said, but what they wanted was regulation so that prices might remain reasonably in accord with the conditions which existed when the contract with the bondholder was made. Mr. Wic'kens suggested certain measures which might be called inflation, the extent of which would be regulated by the Commonwealth and other banks.
