PAULBURN DAM ACCIDENT
ALLEGATION OF CARELESSNESS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Nov. 20. A prominent Labour leader refers to the Poolbum Dam accident as an instance of Public Works carelessness. He alleges that the supports to the trestle which collapsed were light rails, while the cross members were too weak for the structure above the place where the men were working. On Tuesday night a high wind caused the structure to crash, throwing the men into the gully, while the men on the floor were caught in the wreck. Favourable progress of the injured in the Dunedin Hospital is reported, but the condition of William Mason, with injuries to the spine, and Creighton, with an internal injury and a broken shoulder-blade and fractured ribs, is still serious. -
