Ambition Realised.
There is no doubt H. R- Telford’s greatest ambition was realised when Phar Lap romped home in the Melbourne Cup. Usually a taciturn man with an ideal “poker-face,” is Telford* Even when his great' galloperled the field home he held on to his feelings. He stoically survived the critical gaze and the plaudite of thousands when the cup was presented, but when the ceremoney was over and the admirers of the horse* were crowding around'the champion, his complacency gave way and, drawing a wad of pound notes from h*> pocket, he waved them on high in an action symbolical of triumph and abandon, and* with a cry of joy scattered the money at the crowd. •
