HARBOUR STAFF CHANGES
XREDGEMASTER TO BE APPOINTED DISMISSAL OF SIX EMPLOYEES. Staff re-organi<sations in pursuance of the New Plymouth Harbour Board’s policy of economising were agreed on at the monthly meeting of the board yesterday. The changes will entail the appointment of a dredgemaster and assistant harbourmaster and dispensing with the services of six employees. It is estimated that the saving thus effected will total about £l5OO a year. The decisions were the outcome of the report of a sub-committee appointed by the board on October 23 to investigate the arrangement of the board’s staff generally and the effecting of any economies possible. The sub-committee reported it had carefully considered the position generally, after conferring with the harbourmaster and engineer regarding their departments. It recommended that a dredgemaster and assistant harbourmaster be appointed as recommended by the harbourmaster at a salary of £4OO per annum, no overtime to be paid. The appointment would date from February 1, 1931. The committee also recommended that the general staff be re-organised on the lines suggested by the engineer, and that the costing clerk’s services be dispensed with.
