The Winton Jockey Club’s meeting was opened tp-day in fine but dull weather. Just before the Flying Handicap heavy rain set in for the day. The track was holding for the first few races but the programme was concluded with the track in » heavy state. Prospects for to-morrow are not good. In the Trial Stakes Night Lark fell and Trooper North went over him. S. Gerrand, Wairarapa, apprentice rider of Night Lark,. sustained concussion and although he soon recovered was'not permitted to fulfil any other engagements. V. Langford sustained a strained shoulder. When Battle Fleet fell ip the Steeplechase, F. Langford had hie shoulder put out. There was only a fair attendance and the totalizator investments were £8402 10s, as compared with £11,981 10s last year.
