WINDOW COMPETITION. FINALISING THE ARRANGEMENTS. Arrangements for the Empire and Dominion shopping week in Stratford from Saturday were finalised by the businessman’s committee yesterday. The secretary reported that he had received £2l in entry fees for the windowdressing competition, representing 85 entries. Mr. R. H. Hassell (Wanganui), judge of the window competition, will arrive at Stratford on Saturday morning. He will commence as 800 n he arrives, Mr. J. B. Richards having been appointed tp give him any assistance he might need. ~ Messrs. KING’S THEATRE TALKIES. *TN GAY MADRID.” Ramon Novarro will make his second all-talking and singing screen appearance to-night at the King’s Theatre, Stratford, in. “In Gay Madrid,”” a romance based on the Spanish classic .La Casa de la Troya,” written'by Alejandro Perez Lugin. Dorothy Jordan, first seen with Novarro in “Devil May Care,” will again play opposite the star. A feature of the picture is a male chorus of fiftv trained voices. The songs. include “Santiago,” “Let Me Give You Love,” “Dark Night,” “Smile Comrades!” “Into My Heart” and “Wine, Woman and Song.” The plot concerns the love of a Madrid scion for a Santiago beauty. . His infatuation for a dancer complicates the romance which is laid in a Spanish university setting. The picture is said to have particularly effective settings and costumes, both of which are marked by a quaintness and picturesqueness novel to ordinary film works. ZLTHAM THEATRE. “TRAILING TROUBLE.” In Trouble,” showing at the Eltham Theatre to-night, Hoot Gibson combines horses and aeroplanes in his latest Universal all-talking comedy, the seenes of which shuffle between a Western ranch aqd Kansas City. Hoot, as the cowboy entrusted with a shipment of horses, is marked as prey by a band of “city slickers” and a fine conspiracy is cooked up for his undoing. Qf course, there is a pleasing love story, and plenty of the Western brand of humour which Hoot has made famous on the screen There is a heaping supply of riding and fighting, and, as though this were not enough, Hoot throws in airplane antics, including a drop in a parachute. “Trailing Trouble” is well off tile beaten track of Western pictures with an original nlot, and something doing every minute Charming Margaret Quimby has the role bf leading lady. The exceptional cast includes Pete Morrison, Ohve Young and .William McCall. GENERAL ITEMS. A plain and fancy dress skating carnival will be held in the town hau,Stratford,, on Saturday. There will be prizes for the best costumesThe community singing gathering at the Stratford Town Hall last night was interfered with by the wretched weather conditions.
