THRILLING FIGHT ON TRAIN

Four convicts, en route to Dartmoor, staged a thrilling fight with three warders on a train travelling at 50 miles an hour. Outside Salisbury two convicts prevailed upon the warders to take off their handcuffs on the pretence that they wanted to go to the lavatory. When they reached the corridor both turned and attacked the warders. The others rushed out and a general fight occurred in the corridor, to which a guard and soldier passenger was attracted.
The guard managed to drag one convict from the window when he was about to leap. The second leaped through the window and was killed instantly. His body, frightfully ’ mutilated, was found on the line.
The three warders £nally overpowered the others.
