NEW CENTRAL SCHOOL
COMMENCEMENT OF WORK. GRADUAL REPLACEMENT. The construction of the first group of three new class rooms at the Central school, New Plymouth, was commenced this week. Th 6 Taranaki Education Board at its meeting yesterday received a letter from the department confirm jng the grant of £11,431 for the re-
building in brick of. the school, parts of which were damaged by fife during the winter. The board’s bffildirig staff, under the charge of the architect (Mr. C. H- Moore), is carrying dut the work.. Mr. Moore explained to the .board that the department, hid. paid fw the
cleaning of the desks damaged, by the fire, and there was nothing to be paid : in that respect as the desks were all in good order. The joinery required would entail a g6dd deal of work for the board’s shop. The three rooms mentioned are ex-
pected to be complete in time for next year’s opening, and when they are completed the other rooms will be gradually repl., ed. The first section will be to the west of the existing buildings, along' the front of the school ground. It will accommodate about 140 children.
