NEW BOWLING COMPETITION

PREMIUM ON DEAD DRAWING.

HAWERA PARK INNOVATION.

To encourage the art of drawing dead to kitty the Park Bowling Club, lTawera, has instituted a competition in which ability in this direction is the only factor.

Round the kitty are marked three circles, one three feet in radius, one two feet and one a foot. Points count one for the outside circle, two for the next circle and three for the inside one. A bonus of one point is given for a toucher whether it is actually in one of the circles or not. Thus if the bowler draws a toucher, which continues on into the middle ring, the scoring value is. three and if past the outside ring one, while if it stays in the centre it would count four.

The players, who compete in pairs, deliver their bowls alternately. As each wood comes to rest its scoring value is noted and it is removed.

Many bowlers can draw well if they have something to rest against, but with no bowls left on the green the competition makes accurate drawing necessary; The competition was introduced to Taranaki by Mr. S. Bremford, who has donated a cup to be competed- for by members of the Park Club.
