EAST EGMONT COMMITTEE

CLAIM TO RETAIN REVENUE. MONEY FOR SALE OF TIMBER. A request that the committee forward £45 17s Id collected by the committee for the sale of timber was received from the secretary of the Egmont National Park Board at g meeting of the East Committee last night. The policy of the board, said the secretary, was to retain 'he proceeds from , the sale of all timber in the reserve, and the matter of the subsidy would-then be dealt with. “I think the board is rather hard on this committee in taking such monies as this and giving back so little comparatively,” said the chairman, Mr. J. G. Robins. In view of the fact that the money had been obtained only through the committee’s efforts he thought the committee should be permitted to retain the amount. Mr. W. Kennedy said that monies obtained from the east side of the mountain should bo expended in the same locality. The committee’s opinion of the matter will be conveyed to the board and the chairman will wait on the board . at the next meeting to press the claims of the committee. ■ The board forwarded a supply of cardboard notices containing advice to climbers and suggested that the cards be placed in the rooms of the accommodation house. A supply./ of leaflets to be distributed to members of the Mountain Club was also forwarded. The chairman reported that the revenue for the past seven months was considerably in excess of that for the previous 12 months. The camping site had beer levelled, a very fine job having been made of it. Grass seed will be supplied to the caretaker to be sown on the site. The caretaker will be given material to make a gate which will be placed across the road on the turning loop at the house to prevent motorists from driving past the house and returning without stopping to pay tolls. The chairman and Dr. W. P. P. Gorden, representatives of the Mountain Club, were authorised to purchase a stretcher and a first-aid cabinet.
