ONE DEAD; SEVEN INJURED

THIRD CAR STRIKES WRECK PASSENGERS CUT BY GLASS By Telegraph..—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 18. One man lost his life and seven persons were injured as the result of the collision of two cars last night on the Hutt Road. A. third car shortly afterwards ran into one of the wrecks, but nobody in this car was hurt. The man who lost his life was Alfred J. Wiggs, retired civil servant, aged 53, of 146 Abel Smith Street.

Mrs. Jorgenson, Victoria Street, Lower Hutt, was injured on the legs, head and body and her condition is 'fairly serious. Mr. Jorgenson has shock and slight injuries. Mr. Norman Wallace, 90 The Terrace, a proof-reader on the Eveping Post staff, was cut about the head and had his leg injured. Miss Hinds, Island Bay, has head, leg and body injuries. lic hospital, and her sister, Dr. Christina Findlater, are suffering shock. Shortly before midnight the car driven by Miss Findlater, with Dr. Findlater and Mr, Bigham as passengers, was proceeding towards the Hutt Valley, and near Ngahauranga collided with the car driven bv Mr. Wiggs, who had as passengers Mr. and Mrs. Jorgenson, j.xT. Wallace and Miss Hinds. Both care were badly damaged and much of the injuries of the passengers was caused by glass. Mr. Wiggs died on the way to the hospital in the ambulance. The collision was an extremely severe one and before anything could be done Mrs. Eva Dwan /arrived on the pcene and crashed into Miss Findlater’s car. This car is a complete wreck. The body was shoved right back, the radiator being forced upon _ the engine, which, in Turn, is pressed into the driver’s compartment. The wheels were smashed off at the -hubs and the steering column .left bare. The right side of°Mr. Wiggs’ car was torn practically clean away, evidently having received the impact just behind the driver’s seat.
