EX-KAISER WILHELM
EVIDENCE OF PARSIMONY.
By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Berlin, Nov. 12.
Although the ex-Kaiser is still the wealthiest German, he sent only £1 to buy a wreath for' his godchild, who was one of the coalminers killed in the Alsdorf disaster. Wilhelm also sent a letter of sympathy to the Burgomaster, but it did not contain any enclosure for the victims’ relatives. A Berlin newspaper remarks: “While Wilhelm wore the crown he had a civil list for which the people paid, and he liked to play the part of public benefactor. Since he has become a private person he does not dip into his own pocket.”
