EVENTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. RACES KEENLY CONTESTED. Conditions were inclined to be wintry for the New Plymouth Amateur Athletic Club’s evening sports meeting at Pukekura Park last night, but nevertheless there was a good attendance of spectators and they were treated to a fine programme. L. .Thomson (25 yds and one hurdle) 2, H. Fookes (13 yds and one hurdle) 3. K. Fookes jumped away from the field at the start and looked like a certain winner in the straight, but he fell at the next to last obstacle and Sullivan beat Thomson by two feet. Time, 28 l-ssec. 220 Yards Junior. —J. Frethey (16yds) I, M. Boyle (7yds) 2, H. Hooke (scr) 3. Frethey led all the way and in a good finish won by a foot from Boyle, with Hooke two feet away. Time, 26 l-ssec.
