TRIAL FLIGHTS A SUCCESS
LARGEST PASSENGER LINERS. AIR TRAVEL’S LATEST LUXURY. British Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Nov. 16. Successful trial flights were made during the week-end with r.ie first of the fleet of the largest passenger air liners in the world. These HandleyPage aircraft are intended for use on the British Empire air mail lines. Each has four British Jupiter engines, developing a total' of. 2200 horse-power. The value of the order placed for them by Imperial Airways is £200,000. Each machine fully loaded will weigh 13 tons and will have a maximum speed of 120 miles an hour, Handley-Page automatic slots and wheel brakes enabling them to pull up quickly. On alighting they will be manoeuvred on the ground like a motor-car. There is luxurious accommodation for 38 passengers, with a smoking saloon. Two pilots, a steward and a stewardess will be carried.
